We recently had an opportunity to take a
workshop
called "Robot Polymer Clay" at 4Cats
Arts Studio. This particular workshop
is for mixed ages and it's one hour long. I like the
fact that this was a mixed ages workshop so that my
children were able to take it together. My boys were
entertained by the owner of 4Cats Oakville,
Jennifer. She is very friendly, energetic and my boys
were comfortable with her. My first impression of
4Cats Arts Studio is the amazing
art work that is displayed at the studio. It's an
art collection from the students and curators. See
some of the photos below. It almost feels like you
are walking into an art gallery.
Jennifer gave my boys a chance to
get comfortable by letting them draw for a few minutes.
I thought this was a great idea and ice breaker. My
boys used up all the paper that Jennifer provided.
My 3 year old surprised me by his new style. He didn't
do his usual robot drawings. He was just drawing lines
randomly, in a very care-free manner. Perhaps he was
being inspired by his surroundings.
Robot Polymer Clay end product looks
very polished and simple however there were a lot
of steps involved. Jennifer guided us through each
step and always said "it was no big deal"
if we missed a step or did a mistake. I was impressed
that my 3 year old had no problems doing exactly what
Jennifer asked. I even had a chance to create my own
robot with my boys. We did so much and didn't even
realize an hour went by. My boys were excited to see
their robots go into the oven so that the clay would
harden. Jennifer then glued them onto the background
board and voila it was completed! At the end of the
session my boys were very happy with their robots
and so was I!
4Cats offers Camps,
Workshops, Birthday Parties as well as Artist of the
Month classes, that run for 11 classes. In the Artist
of the Month classes, they cover 2 artists a session
and students work in a variety of mediums. The students
learn the history of the artist and their style. It
was really impressive to see some of the students
work. 4Cats has a unique approach
in teaching children about art and making it fun.
It was so great to see both of my boys enjoying themselves
and learning something new.

4Cats and the different options for
workshops and classes.
